|For the past three years, the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) has sponsored CCRI Community Service Day as part of it’s All College Week. This event promotes and supports CCRI students, faculty and staff to engage in community service through volunteering for a day at non-profit organizations throughout Rhode Island. CCRI asked its entire community to support the work of organizations that make a difference to RI citizens, resulting in over 300 volunteers making a difference throughout RI. |
The Trudeau Center was selected to be one of 8 such organizations, and welcomed nearly 75 volunteers on a recent glorious spring day. We were also able to share our good fortune with our community partner, the JONAH Community Center. CCRI volunteers participated in a variety of activities including painting, landscaping, baking, planting and arts and crafts at Trudeau’s Patterson Complex, Centerville Rd home and the JONAH Community Center. People supported through both Trudeau and Jonah were able to work alongside CCRI volunteers to make a difference in our shared community.
The Trudeau-CCRI partnership is longstanding dating back to the early 1980’s when discussion began for the 1986 construction of the Patterson Complex, home to our Early Intervention Central and Adult Day Services programs, on a parcel of land on the CCRI Knight Campus. Our collaboration continues to thrive through partnership on the DSP certificate program and more recently when CCRI made an additional parcel of land available to Trudeau allowing for expansion of the Patterson Complex parking lot and the creation of a picnic area. The various seedlings, window boxes, bird feeders, bird houses that CCRI volunteers and Trudeau participants and staff worked together on will all be used this summer in the completed parking and picnic areas, as a continuing reminder of how CCRI students, faculty and staff came together to make a difference to the Trudeau Center, JONAH Center, and Warwick community.
