In this edition of “Get to Know Trudeau,” Lori shares the moment a client’s joy told her she’d done her job right, and what she wishes more people understood about the individuals we support: they’re not broken and they don’t need fixing, they want respect. 1. What inspired you to pursue a career in human services?
I have a deep desire to help others. I have always been a person that when I saw someone in need, it would make me act and want to help them where I could. I believe in creating a positive change for them.
2. What do you find most rewarding about your job?
Seeing the impact it has on others; and solving issues and taking on new challenges.
3. Can you describe a memorable moment or success story from your time working at Trudeau?
I was teaching a client a new activity and seeing the joy and happiness of them learning it, which brought much excitement for them, and that in itself made me feel that I had accomplished a goal with them.
4. What’s something about people with differing abilities (or working with them) that you wish other people knew or better understood?
That they are just like you and me; they have the same needs, wants and desires, and that they are not broken or needing to be fixed, but want to be respected.
5. What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend?
To be surrounded by my family and friends and happy people enjoy going places and doing things or simply staying home with a movie or a good book.
6. Favorite book, movie, and/or TV show.
Favorite Book: I don’t have one, but anything in Mysteries, Crime Drama, or Gothic Romance
Favorite TV Show: I have several too many too list, Comedies, and Saga’s or Mysteries
Favorite Movie: Again, too many to list, but The Wizard of Oz.
7. Do you have any pets?
Yes, 1 Dog-Black Lab named Samson, and 1 Cat-Tabby named Jules.
8. What’s your favorite food?
Mexican and Italian are my favorites, but I also love Thai, Chinese and Indian food.
9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I would go to Spain, love the lifestyle and food, and Egypt, to see the Pyramids, or Australia, because of the weather, and the landscape.
10. What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I am a Musical Theater buff, I studied it in high school and college, and I can Act, Sing, and Dance.
