10 Trudeau Truths with Brianna Wright

1. What inspired you to pursue a career in human services?

My Mom has worked in the field for many years, her dedication and love for her career created a spark which was only further ignited when we found out my little brother, Camdyn, has autism. By the time he was five years old I felt called to this line of work as I began to realize there are many more Camdyn’s out there who could easily be misunderstood.

2. What do you find most rewarding about your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is truly seeing the individuals each day. In my three years at Spring Grove, I have built fantastic relationships with all the guys. From going on outings, redecorating rooms, helping someone learn a new skill or brushing up on an old one. Each moment I spend helping these guys is more than meaningful to me.

3. Can you describe a memorable moment or success story from your time working at Trudeau?

Last summer I was sitting on the porch with some of the guys and one of them looked at me and the other staff with a huge smile and said, “you guys are my best friends, you know that” . It was one of the most sincere and genuine interactions I have ever had. Moments like these make it clear to me I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

4. What’s something about people with differing abilities (or working with them) that you wish other people knew or better understood?

People with disabilities are some of the most genuine, loving people you will ever meet. Being loving comes so naturally to all the individuals I have met here. It can be so refreshing in today’s world to be around people who don’t seek out judgment, make everyone feel like family, and have a truly beautiful heart, no matter what they have been through.

5. What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend?

My favorite way to spend a weekend is with my boyfriend Connor and my two dogs. Whether it’s a trip to Rocky Point, a fire at a friend’s house, a family dinner with my mom, or just a long walk around the neighborhood, I most enjoy spending time with those I love.

6. Favorite book, movie, and/or TV show.

My favorite movies are the John Wick or The Equalizer series. My favorite TV show is Dexter, the original show and all the spin offs.

7. Do you have any pets?

I have four pets in total; I am an animal lover! I have two ferrets, Boo and Cinnamon, as well as two dogs, Ivy and Scrim. Ivy is a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix and Scim is a Shih Tzu Bichon mix.

8. What’s your favorite food?

My favorite food is Chinese food, ever since I was a kid it has been my go-to. Specifically, egg rolls and coconut shrimp.

9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

If I could travel anywhere, I would go to Iceland, I have always wanted to go see the real beauty of the Northern Lights and visit a hot spring.

10. What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?

I am very creative, in my free time I enjoy drawing, coloring, small DIY projects, and even working with clay. These activities help me decrease stress as well as come up with activities for those I support to do.
